This Handbook is the definitive source and reference tool for academics, researchers and graduate students working in the field of Management History. Consisting of eleven sections, they will collectively cover management history’s past and present and provide an unparalleled overview of both managerial practice and thought. As a discipline, management history has relatively recently splintered from business history, focusing on the study of organizations and the ways in which work is structured and managed. Initially employing a heavily western perspective and influenced mainly by British and American historians, the discipline has expanded the focus of its studies both temporally and geographically to incorporate pre-19th century forms of organization and extend its scope beyond Western Europe and North America. This important project will be a high level, systematic and comprehensive tool thanks to the range of contributions from leading experts and academics. It is intended to be the first port of call for all research endeavors in the field of management history.

Notă biografică

Bradley Bowden is Professor of Labour and Management History based in the Business School of Griffith University, Australia. Also the Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Management History (A-rated by ACBD) since 2015 and Chair of the Management History Division at the Academy of Management, his experience in this subject area is vast and he is regarded as a senior figure in the discipline. He is a prolific writer having published 7 books including Management History: Its Global Past & Present (Information Age Publishing, 2015), contributed to 22 edited collections and published over 50 refereed articles. He has served as the keynote speaker for five international events on Labour and Management History since 2007 and has been awarded the John F Mee Award for the most outstanding contribution to AOM in Management History twice (2009 and 2012). Alongside his duties as Editor-in-chief of Journal of Management History he also acts as an editorial board member for Journal of Labour History and Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Administration
Adela McMurray has extensive research experience in public and private sectors and has published over 200 refereed publication. Her research is internationally recognized and she is the recipient of four Australian Research Council grants, two Cooperative Research Centre grants, and various other competitive grants totaling over $5 million. Adela is Associate Editor of the Journal of Management History, has chaired the USA Academy of Management's International Theme Committee, is a member of the Management History Division and a number of editorial advisory boards. She is the recipient of best research paper, teaching and supervision excellence awards. Adela's research expertise addresses: Innovation, Culture, Diversity and Climate. 
Anthony M. Gould is professeur titulaire (full-professor) of labour relations at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada and Visiting Professor at the Griffith Business School in Brisbane, Australia. Professor Gould has authored articles about management, employment relations and labour market economics that are published in leading peer-reviewed journals and have been cited extensively. He has also written book chapters and presented refereed conference papers in Asia, the Middle-East, Europe and North America. He has been a visiting fellow at Cornell University’s Labor Relations Institute in New York and an invited editor for journals including  Relations industrielles and the Journal of Management History. Prior to entering academia, Professor Gould was a public sector senior executive in Australia and Europe. He has professional interests in labour market deregulation; young/vulnerable workers; globalization; the role of the employment relationship in commercial performance and corporate development; corporate strategy in the digital age; and, statistics and quantitative analysis. 

Jeffrey Muldoon received his bachelor’s degree in History from Gettysburg College in 1999. Thereafter, he received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in 2005. Finally, he received his doctorate from the E.J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University in business administration. His research interests include management history (with special emphasis on the Hawthorne studies and the career of George Homans), social exchange, and leadership. His research has appeared in such journals as Stress and Health, Leadership and Organization Development Journal, Career Development International, and the Journal of Management History. His research in history had won the Best Student Paper at the Academy of Management in 2009 and the Most Outstanding Paper Award for the Journal of Management History in 2013 for his paper on The Hawthorne Legacy. He has been active in the management history division as both a presenter and reviewer.
