Atlas of Real Time 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography

Autor Francesco F. Faletra, Stefano de Castro, Natesa G. Pandian, Itzhak Kronzon, Hans-Joachim Nesser, Siew Yen Ho
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 23 aug 2016
This atlas provides a comprehensive description of normal anatomy of the internal structures of the heart (natives valves, interatrial septum, left atrial appendage, left atrium etc..) as seen by this revolutionary ultrasound technique. Normal TEE cardiac structures are described and compared with the corresponding anatomical specimens focusing on the fundamental as well as the details of the cardiac structures, providing a detailed understanding of the anatomy that has not previously been possible with either real-time transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) or reconstructed 3D TEE imaging technology. The atlas contains a large number of challenging cardiac pathology cases observed in clinical settings and based of the combined experience of five outstanding institutions in Europe and United States. Each case is accompanied by a brief presentation and discussion of the value of the imaging modality to effective diagnosis.

Descriere

Published appraisals of real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a breakthrough technology feasible in most patients, permitting faster image acquisition, and delivering superior images of certain cardiac structures than can be obtained with either real-time transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) or reconstructed 3D TEE imaging technology. The technology is used predominantly for the preoperative assessment of the mitral valve and, going forward, for the guidance of percutaneous procedures, such as interatrial septal occluders, occlusion of the left atrial appendage, and reduction of mitral regurgitation, using either clips or annuloplasty devices.
This atlas is intended as the first book to provide a comprehensive description of normal anatomy of the internal structures of the heart (natives valves, interatrial septum, left atrial appendage, left atrium etc..) as seen by this revolutionary ultrasound technique. In the section I, after a brief introduction of the physical principles, normal TEE cardiac structures will be described and compared side-by-side with the corresponding anatomical specimens focusing on the fundamental as well as the details of the cardiac structures. Anatomic specimens will be provided by Prof Ho head of Cardiac Morphology National Heart and lung Institute Imperial College in London. This will provide a fine understanding of the actual anatomy and relationships between structures that were not previously observed with either real-time transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) or reconstructed 3D TEE imaging technology.
Section II will focus on a large number of challenging cardiac pathology cases observed in clinical settings and based of the combined experience of five outstanding Institution in Europe and United States. Each case is accompanied by a brief presentation and discussion of the value of the imaging modality to effective diagnosis. The format will use a question and answer technique to reinforce the teaching value of the Atlas.

Textul de pe ultima copertă

After almost three decades of research and clinical development, three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography has become a valuable tool in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease. Current approaches achieve 3D imaging with the use of matrix array transducers that allow physicians to realistically visualize cardiac anatomy and pathology in real time. These advances have led to major improvements in the accuracy of chamber volumes and cardiac structure quantification, as well as in their functional analysis, while miniaturization of hardware has enabled a real-time 3D transesophageal transducer. This breakthrough technology delivers images of internal cardiac structures that are of vastly superior quality.
The Atlas of 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the normal anatomy of the heart’s interior structures as seen by this new revolutionary ultrasound technique. Normal cardiac structures obtained using 3D transesophageal echocardiography are presented and compared side-by-side with their corresponding anatomical specimens, focusing on both basic and detailed portrayals of the heart’s anatomic structures and providing examples of the most common diseases. This atlas is therefore written not only for cardiologists specifically involved in the imaging of patients but also for general cardiologists, since it offers a wider view of normal and pathological cardiac anatomy.
