Autor Sheila Evans
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 23 iul 2009
This exciting new book is the first maths book to be written specifically for student on Access courses. The book is full of relevant real-life examples which help students see maths not as merely something which must be learned, but as a valuable tool. It presents a variety of learning methods to enable students to engage with the material and to provide them with a broader and deeper understanding of mathematics. The emphasis is on ‘doing maths’ and getting the students involved in the exercises, rather than simply teaching maths to the students.
It is written for students for students taking Access courses with a maths or numeracy component. It is also suitable for students on Foundation courses.

Textul de pe ultima copertă

Access to Mathsis the only textbook specifically written for adult students studying Mathematics on an Access course or for anyone who would like to achieve a GCSE or an equivalent qualification. It provides a friendly, easy-to-use text, focussing on the four core areas that students are required to cover: number work; handling data; shape, space and measurement; and algebra.
Key features of this book include:
  • Relevance:The book is packed with real-life examples that students encounter in their everyday lives from working out how long you need to be on the treadmill to work off a bar of chocolate to the formula for true happiness.
  • Differentiation:The book includes techniques such as open-ended questions to cater for a range of abilities, from students who have already achieved a good grade at GCSE but need to refresh their skills to those who go into a cold sweat at the very thought of fractions.
  • Variety of work:Not everybody likes to learn the same way, so this book contains a variety of different learning methods: project work, investigations and group work, as well as questions and examples suitable for self-study or classroom learning.
  • Key terms:Mathematical terms can often be a stumbling block to learning.  Throughout this book key terms are clearly highlighted and explained.
  • Bringing it all together:At the end of each of the subject areas there is a section devoted to bringing together all of the learnt skills and applying them to a variety of real-life problems.
This book isthebook to help you learn and understand Maths and get the best results from your course.
